Delta Gamma

Chapter History

In the fall of 1985, nine Southwest women: Laura Bounds, Kim Bruskie, Catherine Helm, Lisa Kobza, Jeanne Marchal, Yvonne McGinnis, Susan McIntyre, Monique Reyna, and Rebecca Wells had a dream. They discussed the need for expansion for sororities on campus. A sorority not only for social purposes, but it was also bases on unique and diverse women. Because of this need, these women formed and founded Delta Kappa Pi. Their dream started becoming a reality.

While searching for a strong national women's fraternity to affiliate with, Delta Kappa Pi worked hard to become one of the strongest sororities on campus. Delta Kappa Pi had colony members plus four pledge classes which helped her grow, expand, and make a name for herself at SWT.

In the fall of 1987, Delta Gamma expressed an interest in colonizing DKPi. Delta Gamma's interest in diversity and the goals and ideas behind Delta Gamma's seemed so similar to Delta Kappa Pi, and it was inevitable that they came together. So, on December 1, 1988, the Southwest Texas State University colony of Delta Gamma was established. With the help of many advisors, seventy-two women started on a three month long road to installation. Finally on April 30, 1988, the chapter charter was presented. After two-an-a-half years, the dream came true.
